This is the second in a series of posts on project management (PM) tools for PDAs. (See here for the first post, which addressed Pocket Plan). In this post we will look at using ListPro for managing projects.

ListPro is an extraordinarily flexible tool that works on the Pocket PC, Palm, and Windows platforms. I use it for a number of lists, as indicated in my Keeping Useful Lists writeup on Keen PDA. It can also be readily adapted to use in managing projects.

It’s very easy to set up a ListPro list for managing a project (or even several projects). The following screenshot shows one that I set up for illustration:

It’s very easy to show task dependencies with indentation, and it’s extremely easy to add new tasks and to select their indentation level and even their color, as illustrated below:

lp_pm2

As shown at the top of this New Item within the project, you can use “Hlt” to select a highlight color and the forward and back arrows of “Indent” to impact indentation level. You can easily assign a due date, check an item complete, enter a Context or some other sort of description, and enter notes on the new item. You can even add another new item without even closing the existing one out by just tapping “New” at the bottom of the screen.

You can set up as many fields as desired and can use ListPro’s filtering capabilities to filter items by completion status, or by the value of other fields.

And, if a dependency changes, it’s easy to change the indentation level and even to drag and drop an item to a new location with the project listing.

What I like most about ListPro is that it’s not just a PM tool: you can use it for any number of lists, including reference information. I know several people who have used it for years as their task management system, rather than using the built-in Task applications on Pocket PCs and Palms. But, it’s not my job to sell it to you, nor am I interested in doing so: I only want you to be aware of what it can do so you can try it out for yourself and make your own decision. (The same goes for all products I mention on this site.)

This is the first in a series of posts on project management (PM) tools for PDAs. In this post, we look at Twiddlebit’s Pocket Plan and their Plan for Windows.

Note that the company also provides PM tools for SonyEricsson, Motorola, and Nokia phones.

Of the PDA PM tools that I have used, Pocket Plan is the most powerful. It has many features normally found only in high-end desktop project management tools: Gantt Charts, Resource Graphs, Filterng Capabilities, and more. You can actually use it to manage complex projects with multiple resources.

The following screenshot shows a Gantt Chart view of a sample project:

You can edit the project directly from this view (by tapping on and holding down on an item until a context menu appears), or you can do the same with the Task View, which is shown in the following screenshot:

The following comparison table actually serves one simple goal. We want to state our vision on the quick-rising market of team collaboration and project collaboration systems.

In the table you'll see two Comindworks: release 2.0 is the current system, and 2.2 is under heavy development right now. 2.2 column describes 'where do we go', and which directions are most important.
